Hanyangpu Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Sichuan Basin – north and NW. The Hanyangpu Formation was erected by Chen Chuzhen in 1964. The section on which the formation was erected is in Hanyangpu of the Jiange County, Sichuan. Upper-middle formation in the Chengqiangyan Gr in northern Sichuan Basin.
Lithology and Thickness
The Hanyangpu Formation is represented by purple red conglomerate, thick-bedded sandstone, gravel-bearing sandstone, siltstone and mudstone, forming rhythms. It is 488.8 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by conglomerate is distinguished from the underlying Jianmen Fm comprising purple red thick-bedded sandstone with silty mudstone. It is in conformable contact.
Upper contact
Its top is bounded by the conglomerate at the base of the Jiange Fm. It is in conformable contact.
Regional extent
The formation occurs in Hanyangpu of the Jiange County on the northwest margin of the Sichuan basin. It decreases in grain size and thickness from northwest to southeast. Macroclastic rocks are mostly seen on the west margin of the Sichuan basin. Conglomerate at the base of the formation is marked by 5 massive conglomerate beds, measuring 23 m in thickness. Southward to Hanyangpu there is only one conglomerate bed of 3 m thick and in the vicinity of Jiange there occur sandstone of 4 m thick.

Fossils
The formation yields ostracods Jingguella ovata, Minheella laticaudata, Pinnocypridea sichuanensis, P. reticulata, Deyangia deyangensis, D. reniformis, Limnocypridea pulchra.

Depositional setting
It is of piedmont alluvial fan deposition.
